Interstate 70 Closed Downtown This Weekend

Interstate 70 EB & WB between SR 315 and I-71 will close this weekend beginning Friday night to demolish the Grant St. Bridge. By Sunday morning, weather permitting, the entire concrete bridge deck will be gone, and the only thing remaining will be the steel beams. Those beams will be removed during overnight closures within the next few weeks.

The new Grant St. Bridge -- which is expected to open in about nine months -- is one in a series of ODOT projects to improve the I-70/71 corridor through downtown Columbus.

This weekend's closure will have I-70 EB closed until Sunday morning; I-70 WB will be open Saturday morning. Below is a graphic of the closure and more specific details.

Changes to Greenlawn Avenue Exit Begin this Friday

Starting Friday, April 27, there will be a new change for south side drivers trying to exit at Greenlawn Avenue. The exit to Greenlawn will only be open to drivers coming from Interstate 70 east or westbound. State Route 315 south drivers will not be able to exit at Greenlawn. Instead, they will use the next exit, which is Route 104 or Frank Road.

The change is for safety. During construction, there simply isn't enough pavement coming from SR 315 south to safely merge across so many lanes of traffic to exit at Greenlawn exit.

During construction and in its permanent configuration, the ramp to Greenlawn Avenue has shifted.

The South Side Mega Fix project, which began last year, is adding a lane in both directions of Interstate 71 between SR 315 and Stringtown Road and building new ramps at the Interstate 71 & 270 Interchange.

The project is expected to be completed in 2020.
