Please plan for delays, consider alternate routes; be alert for closures and watch for extra pedestrian and bicycle traffic downtown and near the routes. Participants and spectators are encouraged to carpool or use COTA to reduce congestion and parking delays. COTA will begin rerouting bus service at 5 p.m. Friday of its 1, 2, 2L, 8, CBUS, CMAX and AirConnect routes. Beginning Saturday morning, all COTA service through Downtown will be rerouted. Delays should be expected Downtown and in the Arena District, German Village, Victorian Village and University District neighborhoods. The COTA CBUS service will not run during the race but will resume after the race course reopens to traffic.

Full road closure and course map details can be found here: https://www.capitalcityhalfmarathon.com/roadclosures.shtml

The start of the race is at High Street and Town Street.

Road Closures:
In preparation for the event, the following roads will be closed to through-traffic starting as early as 5 p.m. Friday (4/26) to 4 p.m. Saturday (4/27):

I-70 West into Downtown - New Traffic Patter

East Side drivers headed downtown via Interstate 70 will notice a new traffic pattern just before the I-70/71 split this weekend. Friday and Saturday night, crews will shift westbound I-70 traffic to begin construction on the next phase of the Columbus Crossroads project.

I-70 west will be reduced to one lane between 18th Street and Grant Avenue until next winter so crews can reconstruct and widen I-70 east. That means I-70 west thru traffic and traffic headed to I-71 south have to merge into the left lane as they approach the 18th Street overpass.

Drivers may remember this traffic pattern from the last downtown project. Motorists are encouraged to follow the signs and choose their lane early.

New Lane Assignments

Here's how traffic will be impacted this weekend.

Emergency Work on SR 315

SR 315 will be reduced to one lane of two-way traffic from Edgecliff Drive to just north of the Delaware County line through Thursday evening commute. This restriction will allow crews to install a steel plate over a hole that was discovered along side the road. Traffic will be maintained with flaggers.

Tomorrow at 9 AM, SR 315 will close for an emergency culvert replacement. SR 315 will be closed through the weekend and is expected to reopen by 5 AM Monday, weather permitting. The detour will be I-270 to US 23.

Updated: I-71 and I-70 Closed this weekend in Downtown

Weekend Traffic Impacts for I-70/71

Saturday Night to Monday Morning

Clarification: I-70 west will only be closed overnight Sunday, not Saturday night as originally stated. I-71 SOUTH will close Saturday night until Monday morning.

Progress is underway on the latest phase of the I-70/71 Columbus Crossroads project.

Starting Monday morning, I-71 south/I-70 west traffic will be shifted over to new pavement on the far right. Traffic coming from Miller/Kelton and points east will also have to change lanes to continue on I-70 west.

To make this change, I-71 south will be closed Saturday night through Monday morning and I-70 west will close overnight Sunday. More information about the closures including detour routes is listed below.

Repairs on I-670 East During Afternoon Commute

The left lanes of I-670 east are closed at Stelzer Road due to emergency repairs to the existing bridge joint.

  • The lanes are expected to remain closed through this evening's commute, so driver's should expect heavy congestion.
  • Crews discovered a similar issue with a bridge joint on I-670 westbound over the weekend, but today's lane closures are unrelated
  • While all lanes of I-670 were resurfaced last year, the condition of the bridge decks did not warrant resurfacing. The ongoing project does include bridge sealing, which is a common practice at ODOT to extend the life of the pavement.
  • Despite the expected congestion, the SmartLane will NOT open today, since drivers must merge over to the right near the airport.
